## How the check works

The check follows the same order [Rein Irving Drainage Company](https://reinirvingdrainagecompany.com/) uses on a site visit, described in the [guide to fixing yard drainage](https://reinirvingdrainagecompany.com/guide/how-to-fix-yard-drainage-problems/). It rules out the things a drain cannot fix first: water rising from a creek, and ground that is wet without rain, which usually means a leak. It then looks at whether water is on the surface or in the soil, where it comes from, and whether it has a lower place to go.

Water at the slab, under a pier-and-beam house, or alongside signs of movement inside is marked as worth fixing soon, because on expansive clay uneven wetting is a common cause of movement. A puddle that clears within a few hours is marked as one to watch. The result is a planning guide, not an inspection; it cannot see what is under the ground.
