What moves the number

  • The outlet is not settled yet. It often decides more of the price than the footage.

City rules and fees

  • Irving: drainage and right-of-way requirements are confirmed per address before work starts.

Budgeting ranges, not a quote. A written price follows a site visit. Restoration of sod, sprinklers and paving is included in the ranges only at a basic level.

How the estimate works

The tool adds up the same ranges Rein Irving Drainage Company publishes in its drainage cost guide: about $25 to $55 per foot for a standard French drain, a typical Dallas-area range; and, as national budgeting ranges, about $500 to $1,500 per catch basin, $150 to $350 per buried downspout and $700 to $2,500 per channel drain. It does not scale those ranges by lot size or soil, because the evidence does not support a fixed multiplier. Instead it lists what pushes a job toward the high end.

Regrading and exterior sumps vary too much for an honest range, so they appear as items priced on site. City fees come from each city's published fee schedules and codes: Grand Prairie's residential earthwork permit, Coppell's curb core permit and drainage inspection fee. For Irving addresses, the rules are confirmed per address.

For what each part of a price pays for, see French drain cost, catch basin cost, downspout drainage cost and channel drain cost. Not sure which drains you need? Try the yard drainage check.
